Hotels are one of the most viable aspects of a country’s infrastructure. The hotel industry is a closely linked to the tourism industry. With increasing globalization, career opportunities in this field are not just limited within the country, but there are chains of international hotels, which operate across the globe which also provide a great scope of growth.
There are multiple job profiles in the field of hotel management depending upon the candidate’s education and work experience. After completing class X or XII the candidates can enter as trainees in the Housekeeping department as room attendants, chambermaids, etc. and in the kitchen as cooks, cooking assistants, receptionists, bellboys, etc. They can further take up short term vocational or diploma courses to enhance their skills and move to better positions.
Several diploma and degree courses are offered by different types of institutions – government, privately managed or institutions operated by hotel chains conducting training programs in collaboration with foreign hotel institutions and universities, etc. Selection to most of these courses is conducted through entrance an examination which includes a written test, interview and group discussion, etc. Selected candidates go through a short training, the duration of which depends on the field they have opted for.
