The Navy protects and safeguards the country’s ocean resources and coasts from any invasion. Navy consists of the combat fleet, personnel, support ships, training establishments and land bases. It has patrol boats, torpedo crafts, cruisers, destroyers, warships, aircraft carriers, frigates and submarines. Support ships or auxiliary ships provide them with fuel, rations, repair facilities and various other services. The officers and sailors are trained to meet any challenge they may face, specially at the sea level.
The operational branch of Navy has three arms-
• Aviation Arm
• General Service
• Submarine Arm
At the National Defense Academy, Pune the cadets are trained for all the 3 services. A competitive examination is held twice a year, in February and September, for a 3 year training course commencing in January and July. Only unmarried male candidates between the age 16 and a half, and 19 years are eligible to take admission in the Naval Engineering College.
